When the sea "breathes"...

...the swell cradles the paddler in its trough and raises him onto its crest, and then does it again and again. On a day such as this, the gentle swell soothes the body, mind, and spirit.

The wave's energy, birthed by a once-upon-a-time wind and powered by its velocity, duration, and available fetch, slips quietly under the boat on its way to the nearby shore. There, its kinetic energy is expended, and transformed into sound and sculpting power.

When the sea breathes, the swell finds its way into nooks and crannies, and secret sometimes-navigable channels - timing matters.

When the sea breathes, and you're part of it...it brings you fully alive. The perpetual smile lasts...

And the cup of coffee, brewed on the rocky beach, couldn't taste better!

The journey along the Moray Firth from Sandend to Cullen was amazing. Thank you, Ian, for kindly allowing the use of your kayak. And thank you, Linda, for kindly allowing Ian the use of yours. ;)

Looking forward to the next time...

  3. The colour of the water in the "tunnel" looks so tropical...guess one can't go swimming through it though eh? Maybe in my dreams? haha

Good to see you are seeing plenty of Scotland even by kayak.
Things are good here in Cowichan.

  5. Hi L, well needless to say, as beautiful as it is I am more than content to stay inside both dry suit and boat! We'll find you a place to swim - I promise. But it is cold! :) D.

  6. Hi Eric and Dorothy, so nice to hear from you. Yes, it's another way to see the "lesser" travelled places - a naturalist's paradise, as you know! :) Glad to hear all is well with you both. Best wishes, Duncan and Joan.
