Channel "bumps" and a Bengali poet!

I expected every wave would have swallowed us up, and every single time the ship fell down...in the trough of the sea, we should never rise more; and in this agony of mind I made many vows... - Daniel Defoe, 1719 (from Robinson Crusoe)

I took this photo on our crossing from Fernwood Point (Saltspring Island) to Wallace Island. Wallace Island Marine Park is located in Trincomali Channel, between the northern end of Saltspring and Galiano Island. Strong winds had created some fairly substantial "bumps" and my partner's kayak was well down in a trough. It was an absolutely awesome paddle!

The words of Rabindranath Tagore, Bengali poet, playwright, novelist, social reformer and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913, seem so perfectly reflected by this image: "You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water."

Timeless and memorable moments...just another reason to nurture that adventuresome spirit that resides within us all!
